Exhortation “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul” (Ps. 19:7).

There is much said in our world about stress and anxiety and worry and weariness and burn out. We live in a fallen world where things tend to fall apart. Friendships and marriages strain and weary us and sometimes break us. Business ventures fail. Bills add up. Hopes and dreams are shattered. Bodies grow weak with age and sickness. We are people in need of refreshment, restoring, reviving. Where do you turn to revive your soul? Do you immediately think of exercise, food, friends, sleep, or a vacation? Of course there are practical questions to ask, and the Bible points to various physical and practical solutions as well. But the answer the Bible gives over and over and over again is that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. Nothing else is perfect like His word; nothing else revives the soul like His Word. Jesus said that He gives living water, bread from heaven, the sort of water, the sort of bread that makes us never thirst again, never hunger again. It completely satisfies. It completely revives and restores and refreshes. This food is the word of God, from Genesis to Revelation. Do you believe that? Is it your food? Is it your bread, your living water, your refreshment, your shelter, your peace, your life? The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. When you are tired, do you turn to the Word? When you are weary, do you turn to the Word? When you are worried, fearful, anxious, do you turn to the Word? The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.
